The International Research Group in Topology, Algebra and Dynamical Systems (IRGTADS) has its origins in some periodic seminars in the area of Topological Algebra, Topological Group Theory and General Topology, where mathematicians from Brazil, South Africa, Germany, Spain and Italy used to attend regularly in the past decades.
The ``modus operandi'' of these seminars was characterized by the desire of sharing methodologies, ideas and perspectives on active research topics in pure and applied mathematics, involving both international experts and young researchers. Similar initiatives around the globe can be identified in the Norddeutsches Gruppentheorie-Kolloquium or in Gruppen und topologische Gruppen, or in the Seminar Sophus Lie, or in the Topological Groups Seminars. These cycles of seminars had the scope to allow conversations in advanced topics of pure mathematics and were systematically attended by some of our members in the past years, beginning a source of inspiration for the IRGTADS seminars.
As a natural continuation of IRGTADS seminars, there was the necessity of meetings and workshop at regular intervals of time, and we were lucky to find (moral and) financial support by many institutions and colleagues in Africa and in Europe. On the model of the conferences GAGTA, SUMTOPO and Spring Topology and Dynamics Conference, which were regularly attended by our members, we tried to connect our local research groups to wider international research groups, working in our fields of expertise.
It should be also mentioned that some of the recent activities of IRGTADS fit into the scientific project ``Topology for Tomorrow'' of the National Research Foundation of South Africa, but also into the proejct ISARP of the Ministero degli Affari Esteri e della Cooperazione Internazionale, or more recently into projects of the JSPS, namely the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science, or even into projects of the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences. In fact it has been always present (in the activities of IRGTADS) a large component of young academics and students, who had a significant benefit from our international meetings, workshops, seminars and initiatives.
