Scientific Motivations

The Scientific Board of WTTG2023 is formed by

Yanga Bavuma (University of Cape Town, Cape Town, South Africa)

David Holgate (University of the Western Cape, Bellville, South Africa)

Francesco G. Russo (University of Cape Town, Cape Town, South Africa)

Anneliese Schauerte (University of Cape Town, Cape Town, South Africa)

This year WTTG2023 is hosted by the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences in Muizenberg and is collaboratively organized by the research group in ``Topology, Algebra and Dynamical Systems'' of the University of Cape Town and the ``Topology for Tomorrow'' research chair project of the University of the Western Cape. It will be an in-person workshop with one afternoon online session. The main topics will touch interactions between Topological Group Theory and Lie Theory.  As usual the format is designed for a restricted number of students, academics and colleagues who work currently in Topological Group Theory and Lie Theory, so it is under invitation only.

A second edition of WTTG held online, due to the pandemic restrictions of the years 2020/2021, and was characterized by a large interaction between Topological Group Theory and Graph Theory.  In this occasion there was a special issue containing the proceedings of the workshop.

The first edition WTTG2017 held in Muizenberg in December 2017.  It was an opportunity for the members of the research group in ``Topology, Algebra and Dynamical Systems'' of the University of Cape Town  to report their ongoing investigations.  WTTG2017  was characterized by interactions between Topological Group Theory, General Topology and Category Theory.  A special issue of the proceedings of WTTG2017 reflects the nature of the topics, which have been discussed in 2017.
