1988

Jaguars Move by Air, Much Improved

In head coach Bill Englert's third year as the head man at TJ, he guided the Jaguars to an improved 4-5-1 record behind the passing tandem of Mark Onaitis and Tim Brown and strong senior leadership.

The season was a roller coaster ride with many great moments and some not so great.  The Jaguars were mathematically alive for the playoffs until the last game of the season where the 21-21 tie verse Chartiers Vally ended any playoff aspirations.

The team was exciting on the offensive side of the ball, especially through the air as the offensive line afforded Mark Onaitis to find his platoon of receivers led by Tim Brown.  The duo would go on to break just about every passing and receiving mark in TJ history.  Onaitis finished 9th in passing in the entire WPIAL, and Brown in the top 25.

Defensively they were much improved after a third year under head coach Englerts's system.  They were led by Don Turek, and posted three shutouts along the way averaging 12.8 points per game allowed.

With the previous seasons woes adding up, the improvement the team demonstrated in 1988 was certainly a step in the right direction of returning TJ to its rightful place on top of the Big Ten Conference and WPIAL AAA standings.
