Session 7

Current Date2463ASE Ardus, Traetor Advancement the 5th (December 12, 2020)

Day 43 – The day started off peaceful until a violent storm rolled in. The sun was blocked out by thick storm clouds, a wall of water fell from the sky and multiple flashes of lighting light up the landscape. Azia was able to spot a rocky outcropping in a far off field, but, before the group could make it there Rajiki and Azia were struck by a random bolt. Luckily they both survived and everyone made it to shelter. They spent the night under some rocks and waited out the storm till morning.

Day 44 – The road lead directly into a thick, old growth forest. Not more than an hour into the forest the group was ambushed by a pack of kobolds. They used pit traps and nets in an attempt to level the playing field and had hidden tunnels to make use of hit and run tactics. Eventually, the group killed off a number of their pack and the cowardly things broke off their assault.

The group did manage to capture one of them, but, it did not speak a shared language. The group also found a leather sack filled with treasure which had some writing on it in an unknown language. the kobold prisoner eventually escaped in the night.

Day 45-46 – The group continued down the south road for some time being cautious of further ambushes and traps. As they traveled Azia realized that the sounds of nature were starting to get quieter. She then realized they had entered the hunting range of an apex predator.

Eventually, the road was blocked by a towering wall of thorns. Rajiki climbed a tree to get a better view and realized that it was an old fort that had become completely overgrown with vegetation. Azia realized it might be the nest of the predator and the group decided to go around the nest quickly and quietly. While doing so, they heard the beast sleeping in its nest, and, luckily, did not disturb it.

Day 47 – The group made it beyond the predators main territory and discovered a ruined tavern. Initial inspection of the tavern revealed it was an active wolf den, but, the pack was currently out on a hunt. Having learned caution from previous encounters, the group decided to leave the area before the wolves returned.

Day 48 – continuing East along the South Road, the group discovered the body of an armored humanoid. Investigation revealed that the person had been mauled by wolves, although it was odd that the wolves had not take the body for food. Its possible that the armor made it difficult for the wolves to get at the meat, or that some of the wolves had been badly hurt in the fight, there were not enough clues to know for sure.

Day 49 – The forest eventually opened up to reveal another old stone fort. This one, however, seemed to be in decent condition. It did not appear to be populated however so the group decided to investigate. The front gate opened easily but as the group split up to explore the interior, Azia was encased in webbing and swarms of spiders poured out of a nearby by door.

The battle was over quickly. The group then heard some muffled cries coming from an interior section of the fort. Investigation revealed a “feeding chamber” of sorts for the spiders and a yet living victim encased in silk. Freeing the victim they learned that his name was Roland and he was from the city of Dunwick.

Roland told the group that Dunwick had fallen under hard times recently; their livestock had been killed by some predator, the fields had been upturned and the city was engulfed by a plague. Roland had left the city with 2 of his comrades in the hopes of finding another city that would offer aid. Offering their assistance the group escorted Roland home.

Day 50 - When they arrived in the fields just outside of Dunwick, Rajiki and Daz fell ill to the something in the air. The group could also see the devastation that was done to the fields. Azia, being connected to fungus, was alerted by her symbiotic entity that the air was thick with an exotic spore. The plague was apparently just an allergic reaction to the spores. The livestock and fields were investigated and matched what the group knew about ankheg activity. They put the information together and realized that the ankhegs had brought the spores with them on their scales and released it into the air when they surfaced.

Being escorted in by the guard captain, Azia explained to the healers how to create a remedy for the allergic reaction and then proceeded to use her symbiotic entity to attract the spores in the air and filter the city as best she could. For their efforts, the guard captain gave them free room and board for the night.

Day 51 – In the morning, the group did some shopping and resting. Later that day, they hunted the ankhegs. The hunt was successful and the ankheg menace was laid to rest (for now). With the city saved the group decided to take a long rest.

Day 54 – During their time in Dunwick, the Baron awarded them with gold and an honorary citizenship. Amber learned a bit about the history of Dunwick and that the old cathedral was being re-used as a hospital. Azia was able to clean up all the spores and instructed the citizens on how to cultivate them properly which could be used to supplement their diets at least until they could get their fields back in order.
