Session 5

Current Date – 2463ASE Xortus, Cartor, Withdrawl the 5th (November 14, 2020)

Day 28 – The group found a tall building, believed to once be an important structure in the city, and fortified their position on the third floor. As she was leaving the ruins of the old cathedral, Daz found an old ceremonial silver dagger wrapped in silk. She found strange runes etched into the blade and began studying the dagger for arcane secrets.

That night, the group was awakened by activity outside the building. The creatures were some kind of crab-people which the group named “Creeple” (Creepy Crab People). The creeple were large and unable to ascend the stairs, but, were strong enough to attack the support structure. The group escaped by jumping out the windows and ran out of town. The creeple did not pursue them beyond the city limits.

The next morning, the group collected themselves and resumed their journey toward Shepstead.

Along the northern shore of the lake, they encountered a group of robed men performing some kind of ceremony. It seemed they were sacrificing a young child to the crabs in the lake. The group tried to intervene but were too late and the child was taken under the water. The robed figures did not want any violence and were eager to share their information.

One of the robed men identified himself as Speaker Davis while the others were unnamed acolytes who swore an oath of silence. They claimed to be followers of someone they called Doto Lazen Rel and sought a path to enlightenment. They invited the group the travel with them back to Norbury (which was on the way to Shepstead anyway) so the group agreed.

Day 29 – While traveling the group learned that Doto Lazen Rel is perceived as a savior who keeps out the horrors and shows his followers a path to enlightenment. They seemed to be a peace loving people. The sacrifice from earlier was unfortunate as the child had contracted some kind of disease that threatened the rest of their city. Speaker Davis also said that they were aware of a 'General Drogan' who is apparently in charge of an 'army of death', but, they knew nothing more.

Eventually they reached Norbury and were welcomed with open arms. They met with the spiritual leader of Norbury, Director Carmichael. The Director offered them a place to stay at the local inn and the group agreed.

Day 30 – That night, the group was awakened by sounds of chanting. They watched as yet another sacrifice was made, but, this time the “creeple” were present. The group assaulted Director Carmichael as the ceremony ended and proceeded to investigate the temple. They found that the temple was very similar to the one they found in Monso City, but, had been converted to worship Doto Lazen Rel instead. As the group was investigating the Directors quarters, the morning mass was starting and people were arriving in the temple.

To create a distraction, Daz created a silent illusion of the Director at the altar which worked quite well. Unfortunately, the director himself started to melt into a pile of slime similar to the film found on the lake and left the group in a problematic situation. They searched for a secret door and found one. They raced out to a back street and used the illusion distraction to give them time to investigate where the creeple from the night before went. Their search was stymied when they came to an iron door which they could not open.

As the illusion wore off, the people started to exit the temple and realized that the group was acting “hostile” and started to throw contaminated water on them. Raj grappled Speaker Davis and Daz created a fog cloud as cover as they escaped the city toward the south.

They eventually reached the city limits where the people of Norbury abruptly ended their pursuit. Speaker Davis then suffered the same melting fate as the director.

Day 31 – The group decided that the contaminated river was too dangerous so took to the southern road as a means to get to Shepstead.

Day 34 – After getting at least a days travel away from Norbury, the group found a nice, peaceful area and tried to have a long rest to recover their focus. Two days passed and at dusk on the third day a horde of zombies approached their camp. The group fought them off and paid a hefty price, but, finally won. They realized that staying out in the open was dangerous and moved on down the road.
