Certifications, Credentials, and Compliance
(What, Why, How)
Professional development for a fire safety professional is more than just obtaining an initial basic certification to perform job duties. Regardless of where an inspector is in their profession, this interactive presentation will highlight pathways to enhance career development and achieve industry-recognized milestones which will appeal to both inspectors who are new to the field as well as those more experienced inspectors. The perspective will be from one of investing in the individual as well as a fire safety organization.
Class discussion will include requirements and pathways for certification at higher levels through ICC and NFPA, fire/explosion certifications, and renewal/recertification expectations. NFPA Standards and Guides will be explored related to individual job performance requirements (JPRs) as well as those Standards and Guides that apply on an organizational level.
Among the many NFPA documents that will be highlighted are: 1031, 1033, 1035, and 1037 for individuals; and, 1030, 1321, and 1730 for fire safety units. A brief overview of additional Standards and Guides will cover NFPA 1250, 1300, 1452, 2400, and 1620 as they apply to an overall departmental risk reduction strategy in a community.
