Geoff Woolard

Geoff Woolard currently serves as the Program Leader for the Fire & Life Safety Program within Environmental Health and Safety at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.  Before returning to Tennessee, Geoff was the Fire Marshal for the Town of Mooresville, North Carolina from 2018-2021.  From 2005-2018, he served as the Assistant Fire Marshal for Franklin, Tennessee.  Geoff's early start in the fire service began as a volunteer firefighter with the Jefferson City (TN) Fire Department while as a student at Carson-Newman College (now Carson-Newman University) and later as the City's first dedicated full-time Fire Inspector.

His certifications include:

ICC - Fire Inspector I/II, Fire Plans Examiner, Fire Code Specialist, Certified Fire Code Official, and Certified Fire Marshal

NFPA - Fire Inspector II

Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator, Fire Investigation Technician

Woolard was an inaugural recipient of the Center for Public Safety Excellence's Fire Marshal Designation (FM) and was on the team of three Designees to revise the original Fire Marshal Designee application. He also served as a member of the CPSE Commission on Professional Credentialing to update the Fire Marshal application to align with newer NFPA Standards.

Geoff has also received the MiFireE credential from the Institution of Fire Engineers. He is a graduate of the National Fire Academy's Executive Fire Officer Program (EFOP).

He has been an instructor/presenter for numerous fire department in-service courses, co-instructed at the Florida State Fire Academy, and has participated in facilitating various modules in the Fire Investigation program at the Tennessee Fire Service and Codes Enforcement Academy.

Geoff earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City (TN) and a Master of Science in Safety, Security, and Emergency Management from Eastern Kentucky University.
