World Championship of Tecmo Bowl
2008 2009 2010 2011
Preliminary Round:
Every player plays 9 games. 3 against each of the other 3 players. The 3 games are broken down in 3 different tiers. 1 game is played using a Tier 1 team (NYG, CHI, SF), 1 game with a Tier 2 team (CLE, DEN, IND), and 1 game with a Tier 3 team (DAL, MIA, SEA). LA, MIN, and WSH are not included in the draw.
To determine the match-ups Player A draws a team from one of the 3 Tiers out of a hat. Player B then picks any other of Tecmo's 11 teams (including LA, MIN, and WSH) to set the match-up. Player A then gets to choose either what team they want and play as the road team (Player 2) OR can defer team choice and choose to have home field for the game (Player 1) and allow Player B their choice of team to play as the road team.
2 of the players will get 5 games as the 'chooser' and the other 2 get 4. This rotates every year.
After all the games have been played the standings determine the order of the team draft for season play. First tie breaker is head-to-head record. In event of a 3-way tie point differential is used.
Draft:
The finishing order of the preliminary round sets the draft order. The 1st place finisher receives pick 1 and 4. 2nd, 2nd and 5th. 3rd, 3rd and 6th. 4th, 4th and 8th. These are the teams each player will use the rest of the tournament.
Season:
Each team plays 6 games (1 against each other player's 2 teams). Home and road schedule is randomly drawn so that each team plays 3 games at home and 3 on the road. Final standings in the season determine who reaches the playoffs.
Play-Offs:
1st and 2nd place finisher in the season receive a 1st round bye in the playoffs. The 3rd seed plays the 6th seed and the 4th seed plays the 5th, with the higher seed hosting the game at home as Player 1. The 7th and 8th seed do not qualify for the play-offs and are eliminated. The winning teams in the quarter finals move on to play the 1 and 2 seed in the semi-finals. The winning teams meet in the next round in the finals to crown a champion.
