San Francisco

There are several stars on this team, including Quarterback "MONTANA", Wide Receiver "RICE", and Free Safety "LOTT". They were said to be the most powerful team last season.

Quarterback – Joe Montana – He’s one of Tecmo’s Big Three quarterback’s, alongside Marino and Elway, can move around in the pocket extremely well, and is Joe Cool for god sake. Tied with Elway in arm strength, only slightly behind Marino, Montana has great speed for a quarterback and can buy a lot of time in the pocket avoiding defenders waiting for a play to develop. Montana is either the second or third best quarterback in Tecmo, essentially a toss-up with Elway, and quite frankly they both make a good case. Joe Cool, baby.

Running Back – Roger Craig – With only one running play San Francisco doesn’t need or rely on the play of their running back, but Craig is a solid overall back capable juking lesser defenders. He’s not a game-breaker but doesn’t need to be. Craig really is featured more as a receiving threat then a running one because of San Francisco’s playbook.

Receiving Corps – Mike Wilson, Jerry Rice, Russ Francis – If you go by adding up the total skills of the receiving cores, San Francisco has the second best unit in the game. That’s what happens when you have Jerry Rice on your team. Mike “Ass” Wilson is about as slow as it gets for a wide receiver and thanks to the playbook gets the most ball, so Ass Wilson really earns his nickname. Russ Francis is a solid tight end with some speed but really doesn’t feature to highly into the San Francisco passing attack. Jerry Rice is the bottom wide receiver, the fastest receiver in the game, the best receiver in the game, and the greatest of all-times. Rice has blinding speed, and is a true game-breaker that defenses need to be aware of at all times. Jerry Catches.

Offensive Line – Jesse Sapolu, Randy Cross, Bruce Collie, Harris Barton – A middle of the pack offensive line thanks to Randy Cross. He adds solid power to the unit while the rest of the group are all the minimum talent offensive linemen.

Defense – Basically a two-man show, but it’s one hell of a show. Ronnie Lott is Tecmo’s best safety, and in the elite class of defensive players who can take over games. If this was a one-man show featuring just Ronnie Lott San Francisco would be fine. Micheal Carter is very talented, with tons of speed from the nose tackle position. It’s the worst position to have a star defender play but Carter is great at making the quick sack on a play pick, and is a nice running buddy for Lott. The rest of the defense is comprised of fill-ins with little talent. The ends, Dwaine Board and Pete Kugler, do however play important roles in the 49er defense. They won’t get mistaken for world-beaters but with Ronnie Lott backing them up everything tends to work out fine.

Kick Returner – D. Crawford – Has the minimum skills for a kick returner, and is essentially a non-threat. Returns out to even the 30-yard line are rare.

Kicker – Ray Wersching – He can put it through from about the 41. While that’s not super terrible, you definitely want more. Luckily for San Francisco their offense is a wrecking machine and they really don’t have much of a problem getting into easy field goal range against most teams.

Punter – Max Runager – Is a very good punter who can always let San Francisco play the field position game if they need too. Capable of about 71 yard punts. And his name is Max.

Star Player – Ronnie Lott – San Francisco is loaded with talent and potential star players such as Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, and Michael Carter, but Ronnie Lott is the cornerstone of the 49er Tecmo franchise. Arguably the second best defensive player in Tecmo Bowl, Ronnie Lott can take over games from his top safety position. His amazing speed and power make him the best defensive back in the game, and he is the best computer controlled defensive player in Tecmo Bowl. Yes, better then LT. Lott can kill most teams running attacks dead by himself. It’s amazing to see when Lott is on his game. We don’t call him Spider-Man for nothing.

Overall – San Francisco is an elite team in Tecmo Bowl, up there with New York and Chicago. Just loaded with talent the 49ers’ can really put a beatdown on the lesser teams, and even give very good teams a difficult time competing with them. Their offense is stacked and can move the ball amazingly quick downfield, and their defense features Ronnie Lott. Their special teams are rather weak, but have I mentioned they have Ronnie Lott on defense? The only problem is that unlike the other mega powers, New York and Chicago, San Francisco is a finesse team, requiring a good player at the helm to really get full power out of them.
