Hanspree Hannsbook tricks
My Hannsbook has been outstanding, for the most part. It had 768 lines of resolution, previously the domain of expensive netbooks. It also uses a "real" CPU, the Intel SU4100, as opposed to the weak Atom series. However, I have noticed two problems:
The hard drive showed bad sectors after about a year (not really Hannspree's fault)
The touchpad is atrocious
In particular, the touch pad tends to go haywire, with near-infinite acceleration, at which point I have to disable the touchpad and re-enable it. Worse, the horizontal scollbar is terribly annoying, using up an inordinate fraction of real estate at the bottom of the touchpad, and with the right arrow close to the down arrow. Third, the middle button toggles the touchpad and is too easy to press accidentally, and requires two to push both buttons simultaneously (equivalent to a middle click), as opposed to one finger pressing both buttons on a two-button touchpad. I don't know how no one objected to the ergonomics.
Fortunately, I have been able to disable the horizontal scroll bar, with instructions found on Ubuntu forums. The steps are:
Download FSPC from Sourceforge
To configure: sudo fspc
As outlined in the forum, there may be additional steps to save the changes upon reboot.
