Maintenance Instructions
1. Clean glass surfaces with windex and a lint free twill jean cloth. (Never use anything that could potentially scratch the glass surfaces).
2. Glass to glass can cause scratches so it is suggested by the Zeiss engineer to leave a clean lint free cloth or a piece of non-abrassive lens tissue between the two glass plates when the scanner is not in use.
3. To remove the top glass plate:
lift glass up and remove by pulling gently upwards from its rest position -- use a piece of lint free cloth or a pair of gloves provided
place glass plate on special lint free holder provided
clean with windex and a lint free cloth
4. To remove the bottom glass plate:
remove allen wrench from tool box
loosen the spring loaded allen set screws on right side of glass plate
hold glass with lint free cloth and gently push to the left to disengage plate
carefully remove the plate
place on special lint free holder provided
clean with windex and a lint free cloth
return to scanner and secure with allen sets
refer to picture for orientation of allen sets:
5. Keep inside of scanner (where wires are visible) very clean because if this area gets too dusty the cables will not move properly. (This becomes critical if you start seeing lines or streaks in your scans). Also, clean the rails and other surfaces as indicated in this diagram below).
6. The drawer that contains the light bulb for the scanner is located at the back right hand side of the scanner. To change the light bulb:
remove the large allen wrench from the tool box
loosen the allen set screw on drawer (it does not come fully off the drawer)
pull drawer out
using gloves from tool box, remove bulb (move the spring clamps holding bulb in place to get the bulb out of the receptacle
replace with a new bulb located in the scanner cabinet
replace the drawer (push in) and tighten the allen set screw
