THE Subang Jaya Municipal Council has taken a tough step in curbing cybercafes operating illegally at the Taman Perindustrian UEP in Subang Jaya by disconnecting the power supply to the outlets.
At least five raids were carried out at Jalan TP 7/1 this year alone.
In the latest operation two out of the four outlets had their electricity meters removed, based on the police instruction.
Enforcement director Mohd Zulkurnain Che Ali said a list of the unlicensed outlets was sent to the police department, which would then issue letters to Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) to cut off the electricity supply.
“We have just conducted a raid here last Thursday so the outlets we entered today were all empty, except for the fourth one where we found 10 sets of computers,” Zulkurnain said.
The team of 18 enforcement members, led by assistant enforcement director Ahmad Hassan, confiscated the items and sealed all premises under the MPSJ Cyber Cafe Bylaws 2007 for operating without a licence.
Also present were police officers from the vice, gambling and secret society branch (D7) of the Subang Jaya police district headquarters.
