THE Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) and the police raided five illegal cybercafes which have been operating as gambling dens in the Kinrara Commercial Centre in Section 3, Taman Kinrara, Puchong, recently.
MPSJ deputy enforcement director Mazrul Zahar Mohd headed the opeartion which involved about 30 council enforcement personnel and five police officers.
“We acted based on complaints from the public. This is the first time we are raiding this area and we found that all five are operating without a licence. There is only one internet cafe here operating with a licence,” said Mazrul.Enforcement officers had to use force to break into two outlets where the operator and customers had fled using the back exit.The council confiscated 63 computers while the police took away 37 gambling machines.The police team, headed by Insp Roslin Mohd Isa, also held for questioning 11 patrons, aged between 30 and 40 years, and two others who were manning the centres.All the outlets were sealed under the MPSJ Cyber Cafe Bylaws 2007 for operating without a licence and the operators could be charged up to a maximum of RM1,000 for the offences.
