RESIDENTS of Taman Perindustrian UEP in Subang Jaya want the authorities to fence up stretches of land where a gas pipeline and high tension cables pass through as a safety measure.
Taman Perindustrian UEP Residents’ Association (Tampura) chairman Kenneth Tan said they were appealing to Petronas and Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) to fence up the areas to prevent any untoward incidents from happening.
“We are concerned about the safety of children as these structures could pose a danger to them. Now schoolchildren and passers-by use these areas as a shortcut to get to their destinations,” he said.
There are about 230 houses in Taman Perindustrian UEP, which is located close to a school in USJ 12 and small commercial centre in USJ 4.
The residents estimated that a 1km fencing would be required for the stretch along Jalan TP 1/1 to Jalan TP 1/8 that borders the gas pipeline, while a 1.5km fencing was needed for the stretch along Jalan TP 1/1 that borders the high tension cables.
Subang Jaya assemblyman Hannah Yeoh said she hoped TNB and Petronas would consider the residents’ request to have their neighbourhood fenced up, and implement the project as part of their corporate social responsibility initiative.
“Residents of USJ 3/4 and USJ 12 share similar concerns as their housing areas are located near the same utility structures,” she said.
Tan said the fencing would serve as an additional security measure for Taman Perindustrian UEP, which was previously prone to break-ins and petty thefts before a gated-and-guarded scheme was implemented late last year.
