THE Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) is stepping up measures to curb heavy vehicles from parking in residential areas or next to public parks.
“We have been issuing notices and compounds every night since the directive came into effect last month,” MPSJ public relations officer Azfarizal Abdul Rashid said. “The next stage is to bring repeat offenders to court, and we’re discussing with the Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (CVLB) on the possibility of cancelling the permits of the transport companies to ensure that this issue is taken very seriously,” he said.
He explained that the heavy vehicles could not be parked in residential areas because of concerns over children’s safety, road access and noise pollution.
“The MPSJ used to act on illegally parked vehicles based on complaints by issuing notices and compounds,” Azfarizal said.
“Under Section 7 (1) of the Park Bylaw, offenders caught for illegally parking heavy vehicles can be issued a compound up to a maximum of RM1,000.
“As the problem was worsening, the council got the state government’s permission and identified four areas to be leased to three concessionaries to operate parking lots for heavy vehicles,” he said.
There are presently two plots of land in Taman Perindustrian UEP, Subang Jaya and two plots in Jalan Permai 1, Puchong Permai that have been located as parking sites for heavy vehicles like buses, lorries and trailers.
The sizes and locations of the four plots are: 3,278 m² at Jalan TP2, Taman Perindustrian UEP; 15,620 m² at Jalan TP7/7, Taman Perindustrian UEP; 10,874 m² at Lot 1570, Jalan Permai 1; and 5,048 m² at Lot 1512, Jalan Permai 1.
The operational hours are from 7.30pm till 6.30am daily.
The rates have been set at RM300 per month or RM20 per day.
Despite the notices and compounds, Azfarizal said the MPSJ still found that some were not complying with the directive out of defiance, while others voiced concerns about the safety of their vehicles and expensive rates.
“The council had a discussion with the three concessionaries, who agreed to reduce the monthly rate to RM200 a month.
“However the daily rate remains RM20,” he said.
Azfarizal added that transport companies who have enquiries can contact the respective concessionaries’ representatives at: 019-338 4479 Amarjit (Jalan TP2), 016-901 3115 Pritpal (Jalan TP7/7) and 017-319 2972 Azlan (Jalan Permai 1).
