A NUMBER of patrons at an illegal gambling outlet in Taman Subang Mas, Shah Alam, were caught off guard, when the Subang Jaya Municipal Council enforcement department sprung a surprise visit recently.
Among the 18 customers were two council employees (not MPSJ), who claimed that they were taking a short break at the outlet. The team also raided another 11 similar outlets — most of it that were masquerading as cyber cafes — in Taman Subang Mas and Taman Perindustrian UEP.
A total of 162 sets of computers were seized in the operation, while the outlets were sealed under the MPSJ Cyber Cafe Bylaws 2007.
Enforcement director Mohd Zulkurnain Che Ali said the illegal premises presented social threats.
“So far, we have conducted raids on 304 premises and confiscated 4,209 computer sets,” he said. Four officers from the vice, gambling and secret society branch (D7) of Subang Jaya district police headquarters (IPD) were also present during the raid.
