Coming soon - this software is in final testing; it is not yet available
Dot Open is an applet intended for the OS X Finder's toolbar. It opens the directory containing the current Finder selection in a Terminal.app window. The name comes from reversing the command used to open a Finder window for the current directory from a Terminal.app window (“open .”).
Clicking the Dot Open icon in the Finder's toolbar will open a Terminal.app window to a directory based on the Finder’s selection. Dot Open selects the directory that is the common parent of all selected items:
folders are treated as their own parents--if a single folder is selected, it will be the directory opened
Finder bundles are respected, so things like applications are treated as files, not folders (mimicking how the Finder treats them)
the front-most Finder window is opened, if nothing is selected
Place Dot Open in your “Applications” folder
Drag Dot Open to the toolbar of a Finder window (you'll need to hold it over the toolbar for a few seconds before it will accept it)
Dot Open 1.0.0 (2009-11-??)
First public release
I have tested Dot Open with OS X 10.4 (Tiger) and 10.5 (Leopard). There is no obvious reason why it won't work with 10.6 (Snow Leopard), but I haven't tested it yet.
Dot Open is distributed under the terms of the new BSD license (license explained).
