The Perils of Profiling

On 23 April 2009, I gave a short talk to the Atlanta Perl Mongers on profiling in Perl. The talk gives a brief introduction to profiling, teaches the mechanics of using the default profiler (Devel::DProf) and the New York Times profiler (Devel::NYTProf), and explores two particular challenges of profiling. The main points of the talk are illustrated with excerpts from sample profiles. The presentation slides for the talk are available for download in Acrobat (.pdf) format.
