Location: Providence | Limbaugh | McNeely station
Previous events: Still stuck on McNeely station
Malcolm and Volkova are still arguing as they reach the shore in their rowboat. She deliberately heaves it out of the water onto the grass in a way that lands it on the foot of his good leg. Now both in pain and angry Malcolm heaves the heavy cane that Volkova fashioned for him into the lake and limps off in a huff. It was heavy enough that it didn't land very far and Volkova retrieves it.
It's getting late and the women left in the park decide it's time to leave. They're not ready to head back to the flat just yet, though, and decide to see what sort of night life the station has to offer them. Although they don't have Bishop's eagle eye for night clubs they do find a Piccadillian, predominantly punk club called "Flamingo" and Gabi, Jillian, and Volkova dance the night away to the "Bloody Ladybugs", an all-girl punk band. Gabi and Jillian are serviceable enough dancers but Volkova amazes everyone by dancing up a storm and impressing others half her age.
Malcom spends his time finding the simplest cane that he can and starting up a quest to replace his copy of the twenty-year old cheesecake calendar that had Volkova in it. He knows that he's not going to find it right away but if they're stuck on this station for a month he'll hopefully have the time to find it; this place has a reputation for having pretty much anything that you can possibly want to find. He eventually gets home and after reassuring Harry that he's not an attacker sent by Seldin Automotive Parts he goes to sleep on the couch.
The girls get back from the club late and wake Malcolm up with their giggling and singing half-remembered lyrics from the band. Volkova's carved metal cane has been forgotten at the bar but she's not concerned about it. Gabi and Volkova go to their room and quickly fall asleep but Jillian's feeling inspired and decides to do more work on their painting.
It's quite late when Jillian hears the front door open. Assuming it to be Bishop getting in from his latest romantic fling she opens her door to come face to face with three goonish men. The smallest of them, wielding a pistol, growls "Where's Harry Young?" Jillian jumps back into her room and in a flash slams and locks the door. One of the men tries to force the door but the older construction of the flat makes him take some time and make some more noise, waking up some of the flat's other occupants.
Jillian has nowhere to go unless she tries to jump out of her window to the balcony but she has no time for that as the rather large thug comes through the door and comes at her with a knife. Desperate, she splashes some turpentine in his face, catching him full on. He roars in pain and tries to stab her but his pain and blindness keeps her safe. The same can't be said for her painting that she's been working on; it's cut open with a wide gash and at this Jillian fights back with a newfound rage.
Gabi and Volkova quickly debate what to do. Volkova smashes a mostly empty bottle of vodka that she has handy and she and Gabi fling the door open and charge into the fray. The two goons still in the hallway are taken by surprise. Gabi jumps the smaller one and gets a pistol cracked against her face for her efforts but gets her arms and legs around him, preventing him from doing much with his firearm. Volkova's very strong and quite good with a weapon, even a makeshift one, and quickly cuts up her opponent quite badly.
In the rear of the apartment Malcolm thinks about heading out the fire escape but realizes upon hearing the sounds of a battle joined that he's needed in the thick of it. Harry runs out of his room with the same initial plan of absconding down the fire escape and almost hits Malcolm out of reflex. He, too, decides to help out. If he does make a run for it he's not going to be much better off with no one to help him hide. The two of them run toward the front of the flat.
The be-pistolled thug is still grappling with Gabi and Volkova is still duelling with her opponent when Harry and Malcolm show up. Harry gives Volkova's thug a solid blow across the face and Malcolm tries to wrench the pistol free with his cane. Volkova stabs her beleaguered enemy solidly in the belly and he's out of the fight. Harry goes to help Gabi and Malcolm and as the man with the pistol is mobbed by three opponents Volkova rushes into Jillian's room where the captain is still pretty much at a standoff with her goon. He's blind but still armed and she's really not that much of an unarmed combatant. Volkova grabs him from behind, giving Jillian the chance to give him a good kick to the crotch. After Volkova gives his neck a good wrenching he gives up and Volkova sits on him to keep him immobile.
In the hallway things are not going well for the thug: he manages to finally get a shot off, grazing Gabi's arm, but Malcolm trips him up with his cane and Harry again takes advantage of a man on the ground in front of him to stomp him to death.
The fight over, everyone takes a minute to make sure that they're ok and to catch their breath when they realize that the goon that Volkova stabbed has made it out the door! Malcolm hobbles after him but it looks like he made it to the elevator before being knocked out by their neighbour, who introduces himself as José. Malcolm asks him to call the police, which José has already done.
All there is to do is to wait for the police to show up. Jillian patches up Gabi's arm and José greets everyone in a slightly awkward way given the circumstances. Harry debates making a run for it but decides to stay. Where does he have to go?
The police show up slightly before the ambulance and take statements but it's pretty obvious what's happened. José knows the police; it turns out that he was one up until fairly recently. His presence makes things go much more smoothly and the police soon leave, telling the flatmates to come down to the police station in the morning for paperwork and such. The thugs living and dead carted off, it's time to try to get some more sleep.
