Virtual Meeting 3rd June 2020

posted 04/06/2020 15:03

Wednesday 3rd June was our first meeting using Zoom, despite a few technical issues, it was a constructive meeting

The meeting included:

  • Scanning/photographing old photographs and identifying individuals.

  • Difficulties were experience with photographs in albums, it was found to be easier to photograph rather than remove the photographs and scan. Assistance was given in identifying family resemblances where photographs were unnamed.

  • DNA Testing

  • The use of this identified distance family members scattered throughout the world and added to the family story.

  • Canadian Deaths

  • Difficulty of finding details of deaths in Canada, as each province retains its own records. It is necessary to identify the location of the death.

  • Age Changes on Census

  • Changes of age regularly occur and the 1841 census has adult ages rounded to the nearest 5 years. Individuals regularly amended their ages on different census and names could be spelt different and the forename given could be what they are known by, rather than what they were baptised as.

  • Finding Details of Deaths

  • This can be difficult and often the death of a family member, prior death certificates, cannot be found.
