CHRIS BONANNO

PERSONAL INFO:

NAME: Chris Bonanno

WWBA TEAM: Rockledge Hurricanes

YEARS IN WWBA: Close to three (I took over post-trade deadline during the 2018 season)

HOW OLD ARE YOU? 37

FAMILY MEMBERS: Mom Maureen, Dad Steve

LINE OF WORK: I currently am failing miserably at finding a job. but I do serve as an assistant baseball coach at a high school and have had previous experience as a reporter and as a teacher.

HOBBIES: I enjoy playing video games and a wide variety of sports, including basketball, touch football, tennis and table tennis. I also serve as an assistant baseball coach at a local high school. I also like to run and walk quite a bit. I love board games including Scrabble (I’ve played at least several thousand games if I had to guess), Monopoly and Battleship. I love playing Texas Hold ‘Em Poker as well as following the weather.

FAVORITE BASEBALL TEAM & WHY: I love the New York Yankees. I moved down to Florida when I was 8, but my parents were Yankees fans and I stayed up north just long enough to become a big fan.

FAVORITE BASEBALL PLAYER & WHY: It’s a tie between Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera. I absolutely loved how they carried themselves and how they were both very unique players in the history of the game. I deeply struggled as to whether to name Jeter or Rivera manager of the Hurricanes. If I could have co-managers, I would have named them both to those roles.

FAVORITE BASEBALL MEMORY: It’s difficult for me to pick just one memory as a Yankees fan, but I’ll go with the Yankees winning Game 6 in the 1996 World Series to win their first championship of the dynasty. The Yankees were pretty bad when I first started following them and were down 0-2 to the Braves in that series so it was an extra special comeback.

1ST MLB GAME YOU ATTENDED & WHEN: I attended a Yankees game at old Yankee Stadium when I was 6 or 7. The Yankees won in extra innings. I also attended a game at Shea Stadium involving the Mets and the Reds but I believe the game got rained on after the first inning and we left but I was really young.

HOW DID YOU GET INTO THE WWBA? Anthony was nice enough to add me on the waiting list several years ago and I got the word during the latter half of the 2018 season that there was a couple of openings and that I’d have an opportunity if I wanted it, which of course I did.

WHAT OTHER LEAGUES DO YOU PLAY IN: I am in too many leagues, but have joined the ABL, SGML, EBL and BLBA. I also play in the CANUSA fantasy hockey league with Brent, Yves, Don and Tony. I had the worst record in that league too this past season, so really it’s been a very long year in that regard.

WHAT YOU LIKE /DISLIKE ABOUT DMB: What I like and dislike might both be the same thing. I like the emphasis on split differential but at the same time, there can be ridiculous splits (especially in the shortened season) that can skew what a player is. For instance, if a left-handed batter has 200 at-bats and went 10-for-30 against lefties, they’re presented as great against lefties, when in fact in real life they’re managed to avoid facing lefties. I like how cleanly the game runs. I do not like how difficult connecting over Net-Play can be sometimes. It shouldn’t be this hard in 2021.

OTHER PRO SPORTS YOU ENJOY WATCHING: I am a huge fan of the New York Yankees, Giants, Knicks, Rangers and Miami Hurricanes in college football and basketball. I also enjoy watching the PGA and professional tennis. International soccer is fun, especially games involving national teams.

YOUR FAVORITE MOVIE: This depends on the day you get me, but it’s either The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises, Iron Man, The Avengers or Avengers: Endgame. Anchorman and Forrest Gump are really good too.

THE TYPE OF MUSIC DO YOU LIKE: I really enjoy everything except for country and metal-types. I most enjoy 80s and 90s, R&B and hip-hop.

THE BEST BOOK YOU EVER READ: “The Client” by John Grisham.

ANY PERSON LIVING OR DEAD YOU WOULD LIKE TO MEET & WHY?: I’d love to meet The Rock. He was awesome in WWE and just seems like a very humble, down-to-Earth guy. Beyond that, I think it’s admirable he came from not a lot to where he is now. Also, he’s a Miami Hurricane.

YOUR WORDS TO LIVE BY: ” Treat others as you would like to be treated. “
