I attended a talk conducted by Mr. Tham Tuck Seng, Partner and Head of Capital Markets Services Group of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (PwC). Its main focus is about staying relevant in a digital world, especially in the accounting and audit industries. This also provided reskilling, upskilling and cross-skilling opportunities to me.
From the talk, I learnt how digitization is transforming the way people engage and transact with businesses and with each other. This is because companies which understand the strategic potential of information technology (IT) integrate it into everything they do. Hence, a foundation for artificial intelligence, machine learning and a more automatic organisation is created. From Mr. Tham's personal reflections on how the world has evolved into a digital workspace, I also understood the importance of how audit must be constantly re-engineered and innovated with technology so as to meet the needs of the ever-changing world.
In conclusion, I learnt how automation, business analytics and robotics are continuously affecting the accounting, finance and audit professions, which adds to my existing knowledge. This is essential since I have to be aware of these trends to constantly upgrade myself to be future ready and continue to stay relevant in today's digital world.
