I attended an informative session conducted by Professor David Lee, who is an Entrepreneur, gamechanger and Thought Leader in the field of Financial Technology and Financial Inclusion. This in in hopes of gaining reskilling, upskilling and cross-skilling opportunities since it is important for me to be aware of future trends which will affect the job market.
Through this informative session, I found Professor Lee's insights to be useful and thought-provoking. I learnt alot of new information such as Alipay, PWC's Vulcan Digital Asset Services, Ant Financial as well as Equity-based Crowdfunding. I also understood better on Singapore's position in the current competitive job landscape with millions of Chinese graduates flooding the job market each year, coupled with lower manpower costs in Taiwan, Malaysia and India. I also learnt that Chartered Accountants and Finance Managers have a 95% chance of losing their jobs to automation and that it is no longer sufficient to just be an average accountant, but a accountant-programmer since programming is a skill needed in many industries in this digital age. This can be seen by how the Big 4 firms are increasingly recognising how auditing is transformed by machines, and hence they are diversifying into Blockchain and Smart Contract prototyping.
In conclusion, all of these information is crucial for me to stay relevant in this ever-changing society and world. This informative session helped me to keep abreast of the disruptive technology trends in order to be future ready. From this informative session, I understood the importance of upskilling myself in the different areas of programming as it is becoming an important aspect in many career paths, including an auditor.
