I worked at Star Cruises for the cruise ship, Superstar Gemini, in Singapore. I worked as the Embarkation and Customer Services Assistant at the check-in counter for 8 months from December 2014 to July 2015.
I gained employment experience by having the opportunity of interacting with people from all over the world. I needed to check customers' passports, their E-Visa, re-entry permit or work/study permit (for foreigners) and hand them their boarding passes at the check-in counter. Communication skills was an essential part of my job as I had to interact with both Singaporeans and foreigners effectively. I had to explain their boarding passes, room numbers and answer any queries they have about the cruise.
I also learnt an important skill of dealing with difficult customers and how to handle customer relations effectively. This is an essential skill because it is necessary for a business to cultivate good customer relations to attract foreign businesses, especially since the Singapore government plans to develop Singapore into a global accountancy hub.

In conclusion, this employment experience of working at Star Cruises honed my communication skills, especially with foreigners, and taught me how to handle difficult situations effectively. I believe these will help me in my future career in the business world.
