Reflections: The new journey begins......
How do I feel?? I don’t really know....the workshop for the PGCHE starts tomorrow, am excited but will I really find anything new to learn? What if I find it too difficult to cope with? Isn’t it silly for someone who has already been observed as a ‘skilled’ teacher to be doing this? There are so many ‘what ifs?’ – However, nothing ventured, nothing gained!
So must:
ü finish preparing my micro teaching slides
ü complete the assigned reading for the class/workshop for the next 2 days
ü create a new document folder on my desk top for all my study materials
ü check out the reading list for the rest of the course materials and books from the library
ü change my mind set from being a teacher to a student
ü re-learn how to study once again (!)
ü begin to plan my time better to fit my ‘student’ time

Reflections: At the end of day 1...........
So far, so good – it’s a relief to know that I am not the oldest student in the class. Rita (Constantine) is also part of the cohort, and she became a grandma today!! So I guess it’s never too late in life to learn. Also three of my other colleagues (Rachna, Papiya and Ankur) doing the programme with me have been my students in my regular course!!
On a more serious note – a series of very interesting lecture seminar sessions with my colleagues who have already undergone the PGCHE. Interesting to note not just the content of their seminar lectures, but also the variety of teaching methods, delivery styles and teaching tools used by them. Each of them seemed to have their unique style and the classes for even a moment did not seem to drag, overwhelm or bore, even though some of the content was familiar to a ‘veteran’ like me. It was interesting to note how the same was communicated and received by the new PGCHE cohort. One thing to be noted – almost every minute of each of the segments for today’s workshop was very well planned, the tempo was upbeat and the tutors seem to enjoy themselves as much as the students did!
I think I am going to enjoy the next 11 months......
Points to be noted:
ü Read – introspect – reflect
ü Read – reflect – apply – reflect
ü Read – study – reflect – apply – reflect – write
ü Inquire – search – read – study – apply – reflect – write
ü Discuss – introspect – read and discuss – read, discuss and share – reflect – write
ü Plan – work – reflect – read – ideate – reflect – write
Okay so who said this was going to be easy!!!

Reflections: Workshops and Micro Teaching - Day 2
Planning, organizing and documenting – these seem to be the three most important aspects of the first part of what the PGCHE is going to be all about – that is apart from REFLECTING!!
ü Planning your teaching objectives.... which are planned on the basis of learning outcome... which are based on the programme/module aims and assessment
ü Organizing your teaching and teaching tools to meet your teaching objectives, achieving your learning outcomes and assessing whether the learning outcomes were met and aligned with the teaching aims
ü Documenting the process to ensure sustained delivery of the learning outcomes through enhanced learning experience both for the learner and the tutor
For someone who is a diehard list maker and organizer this does not seem to be difficult, but I will reserve my comments for later ......
The micro teaching sessions were interesting - there was a marked difference in the teaching styles of different teachers based on whether they were from the design or management faculty. I must admit my colleagues from the design department are far more imaginative and visual in their content development and delivery.
