Aim:
“The PGCHE focuses on the teaching role of the academic in Higher Education, with reference to the diverse ways in which students learn. The PGCHE provides a practical and theoretical grounding in learning and teaching in Higher Education and emphasizes the links between conceptual frameworks and professional practice. The PGCHE aims to encourage participants to develop a scholarly, reflective enquiry base to inform their teaching and its development.” (School of Education, Nottingham Trent University, 2011)
Based on the programme aims my key objectives for my professional development plan are to:
Ø To develop a deep understanding about the different theories of Teaching & Learning
Ø To practice and develop the professional skills necessary to facilitate learning in Higher Education
Ø To become a reflective practitioner
Ø To explore diverse areas of teaching and learning through applied research to enhance my abilities as a teacher
Ø To develop an insight and understanding of the structural requirements of content delivery in higher learning through organisation of teaching, learning and assessment tools and strategies through use of teaching plans, peer observation and feedback, self reflection, desk learning and learning set discussions.
To achieve these objectives the resources needed by me are:
Ø Support of my organization, the Pearl Academy of Fashion, by funding my learning; providing me with the infrastructural support of the Library facilities; teaching and learning materials; classrooms; and tutors and mentors, who are part of the programme delivery team of the PGCHE.
Ø My students – who will be an intrinsic part of my complete learning journey and at the receiving end of all my new found knowledge.
Ø Inputs from friends and colleagues who work in similar institutions or are a part of training teams working with the Industry.
Ø My family – for moral support, understanding and encouragement.
My PGCHE Learning journey Timeline to achieve my objectives:
[1] I am already aware of the requirements of this module having spoken to colleagues who have undergone the earlier PGCHE programme. I wanted to experiment with an unconventional e-learning platform i.e. the social networking platform and to fully understand its effectiveness as a teaching and learning tool I will need to incorporate it into a semester learning module. Hence I will commence on this project before the 2nd module instructional workshop schedule to be held in September 2012.
