Professional Highlights:
· Career spanning 31 years in the Indian Clothing and Textile Industry. Senior and top management positions as CEO and Operations Head of International Clothing Design, Manufacturing and Sourcing organizations.
· HOD and senior Faculty at National and Private Institutions training management professionals for the Clothing and Textile industry.
· Team leader and coordinator for programme curriculum and module content design of a post graduate Diploma Programme in Design and Merchandising, validated by an International University, for professionals training to join the industry.
· Team Leader and coordinator for several Industry-related professional education curriculums being taught by several institutions pan India.
· Worked as a consultant to several Domestic and International companies in the clothing industry in areas of back end merchandising, product sourcing and manufacture, product development and design forecasting, fashion marketing, ERP systems and business planning and management.
· Also engaged as a functional consultant for the customization and implementation of the ERP systems of an organization manufacturing and selling high-end fashion apparel in the domestic retail industry.
· Team member of the functional consulting team that worked on projects initiated by the UNDP for marketing and merchandising textile products produced by the weavers of Chanderi; and, the ODA of the British High Commission with the weavers of the power loom sector of the Salem District in Tamil Nadu.
Previous Positions:
In a career spanning almost three decades I have worked in various areas of the Clothing and Textile industry and vocational pedagogy. Some of the jobs functions carried out by me include:
· Senior Consultant at Third Eyesight, well know Apparel Marketing and Retail consulting company in India.
· Operations and Business Management Head at Tarun Tahiliani, well known couturier company in India.
· Head - Marketing, Merchandising and Buying functions of buying organizations with principals in Europe and Australia – including DCM Industries, Gokuldas Images, Indexco (now known as Mondial), Indmag, Progetti Kauten, Austin Brothers, Newlook Holdings, UK and Nemuki, Australia.
· Head, Fashion Business and Technology department at the Pearl Academy of Fashion, a well known Private institution that runs under-graduate and post graduate programmes to train professionals for the Industry.
· Head, Industry Cell at PAF to liaise, develop, administer and execute Industry training programmes, placements and other industry related services.
· Programme Leader for the design and implementation of the first post graduate diploma programme at Pearl Academy on Integrated Fashion Technology and Management validated by the Nottingham Trent University, UK and consequently other programmes that are currently ratified by the same University.
· Senior Faculty Apparel Marketing and Merchandising at NIFT.
Key expertise Areas:
Ø (Industry) – Back end Merchandising Systems, Marketing, Product Development & Design, and Product Sourcing:
1. Back end Merchandising and buying: identifying buyers’ seasonal merchandise requirement, merchandise planning from concept to consumer, pricing and profit planning, seasonal merchandise planning, MIS and merchandising systems.
2. Marketing & Product Development: Develop Range plans based on seasonal forecast and buyers/consumers’ market requirements. Fashion forecast analysis and raw material sourcing/development.
3. Training: On site training workshops for up gradation of merchandising skills and implementation of MIS. Merchandising and production planning management systems audit and training.
Ø (Pedagogy) – Curriculum design & development, Curriculum administration, and Teaching:
1. Curriculum Design and Development:
· Assessing and identifying industry requirements for trained professional to develop the rationale and objectives of various UG and PG programmes in the area of Design, Merchandising and Management,
· Development of teaching objectives and learning outcomes to map progression of cohorts through a programme,
· Design and develop module specifications thereof, including the required industry interface to integrate the classroom learning experience.
2. Curriculum Administration:
· Leading a team of faculty to implement various teaching programmes
· Maintaining and administering the documentation requirements for the implementation and successful running of various programmes including module spec, assessment briefs, assessment and evaluation records, curriculum changes, academic calendar, internal verification and academic systems audits and quality.
3. Teaching:
· Teaching on both UG and PG programmes in the subject areas of Merchandising, Marketing, Product Development and Fashion Forecasting, Product sourcing and Costing & Pricing
Other Professional Activities:
· I was an external examiner for the Sportsking Institute of Fashion Technology, Ludhiana, a private institution delivering vocational programmes for the industry.
· I continue to be a visiting faculty and jury member, as well as an associate project guide at several institutions running industry based programmes for the Clothing and Textile industry, including NIFT and Symbiosis Institute of Design, Pune.
· As a Training Consultant with the industry I have executed several on site workshops and EDPs with private and public limited organizations in the Clothing and Textile Industry and other related lifestyle products. I design, develop and deliver ‘bespoke’ training programmes as per individual company requirements pertaining to Merchandising Systems, Business Planning & Management, Product Development & Product sourcing, Business communications and soft skills.
I am a graduate in Russian Studies from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.
