The old National Guard Armory from 1939 was one of the few buildings saved from demolition and repurposed for the fair. During the fair, it housed a large indoor food court with 52 food concessions and La Balcone, a full-service restaurant. One of the main attractions was a 39-foot tall fruitcake called Paul Bunyan's Birthday Cake.

After the fair, many of the food vendors remained and the building continues to be used as a food court for Seattle Center. In 1974, the interior was renovated and the building took on a new name: The Center House.
