4. Why I am taking the Specialist Diploma: To enhance and keep my currency on MOI
5. What I hope to gain from the New Media Pedagogy course: Understand the current trend in MOI and see how to apply in camp
6. My notes and questions:
Where does knowledge reside? How do people learn?
Knowledge assets reside in many different places such as: databases, knowledge bases, filing cabinets and peoples’ heads and are distributed right across the organization. Knowledge exists in documents, structured repositories, file cabinets, Web pages, and in the minds of employees. Most people agree with the definition that “knowledge” is not only personal, it is also an evolutionary mental process – we formulate what we know. Knowledge also includes intuitive and spontaneous responses to the situations in which we find ourselves. Only those who stock it will be able to use Knowledge is information, experience, skills and attitude that reside in a person’s mind. it. Therefore it is essential to document this knowledge and make it available to those who require it. Knowledge means, knowing were it’s written down.
Cognitivism: (reside in the learner)
Cognitivism is "the psychology of learning which emphasizes human cognition or intelligence as a special endowment enabling man to form hypotheses and develop intellectually" (Cognitivism) and is also known as cognitive development. The underlying concepts of cognitivism involve how we think and gain knowledge. Cognitivism involves examining learning, memory, problem solving skills, and intelligence. Cognitive theorists may want to understand how problem solving changes throughout childhood, how cultural differences affect the way we view our own academic achievements, language development, and much more. (Feldman, Cognitivism)
Constructivism: (thru environment, experience)
Constructivism is first of all a theory of learning based on the idea that knowledge is constructed by the knower based on mental activity. Learners are considered to be active organisms seeking meaning. Constructivism is founded on the premise that, by reflecting on our experiences, we construct our own understanding of the world consciously we live in. Each of us generates our own "rules" and "mental models," which we use to make sense of our experiences. Learning, therefore, is simply the process of adjusting our mental models to accommodate new experiences. Constructions of meaning may initially bear little relationship to reality (as in the naive theories of children), but will become increasing more complex, differentiated and realistic as time goes on.
Cognitive constructiivism
Making sense thru people
Social constructivism
Making sese thru interaction
Connectivism:
Connectivism is a learning theory for the digital age. Learning has changed over the last several decades. The theories of behaviourism, cognitivism, and constructivism provide an effect view of learning in many environments. They fall short, however, when learning moves into informal, networked, technology-enabled arena. Some principles of connectivism
Knows who and how to get information from Networks
Connecting people with resources
What is the link to new media and new media strategies?

8. My reflection (use comments feature below or embed a blog here)
1st 2 days are more of downloading to me, but of key to me would be on Cognitivism, Constructivism & Connectivism. After the detailed disussion and research, I have gotten a bit more depth in the understanding.
As known to all, SAF is still not very current with Wiki, blog, etc..., so till wednesday of the course, then I realised that the platform that I am using now is called Wiki...
Throughout the course, the subjects that took me great interest were:
1. the sharing methods, ie Think-pair-share & jigsaw methods;
2. types of background avenue, ie LINO IT, Twitter, to engage more people in a forum/ class;
3. I am also impressed by the types of media and forum in the virtual world available now in the world for the new generations to learn and speak up, ie 2nd life;
3D World/ Virtual World/ Open Wonderland/ 2nd life
In virtual world, Ability to do conferences, create workshops, in conversations with someone, teaching tools (mirroring what we do in real life into the virtual world, so no requirement to travel to attend the listed personally)
2nd life: - from learner perspective: conversation, discuss issues immediately, allowing people to get connected easier due to individual characters or shyness.
Only difference is at your location.
4. Not forgetting the Mindmeister for mind mapping in a group.
5. And the teaching methodology and understanding how it can be overlapped and be applicable in various context.
In conclusion, I do noted that there are many new forums and avenues to teach, voice clarifications and social network. Probably is time for me to level up with all these technology. As for application level in our work context, maybe it will take a while more to be able to use this platforms and means. Security is always an issue in our work environment, so once Learnet 2 is ready, we may see a change in the teaching methodology in SAF.
Thanks :)
