4. Why I am taking the Specialist Diploma: To level up my knowledge and skill set in terms of instructional design and pedagogies.
5. What I hope to gain from the New Media Pedagogy course: To learn how I can leverage on new media (i.e. how to use new and different media for instruction) to enhance my instructional work, in turn, better engage my learners and enhance their learning.

Where does knowledge reside? -
At the individual level: in your head,
In an enterprise: Collective heads of the individuals who work in the enterprise.
Manifestation:
1. Librarians ~ like the book kind
2. People who sell Knowledge Management systems ~ like electronic documents
3. Regulators
4. International Standards organizations ~ (3) & (4) don't care about form, but care that it be posted somewhere, available somewhere, or followed at certain times
How do people learn? Through social interactions with other learners and SMEs as well as KM repositories.

Connectivism:
Connectivism is a learning theory for the digital age; about knowing who from and how to get information. Most relevant to new media, typically beyond confines of classrooms.
What is the link to new media and new media strategies?
Q: When to re-create real world in virtual world, and when not to?
E.g. Virtual World Conferences, Workshops (Second Life)
Allows remote real-time participation > convenience
Allows situated learning by learners e.g. virtual world creation workshop, hence in this world, learners whilst attending, will also get hands-on to create their own virtual worlds

Advantages (Learner perspectives):
Evokes participation even by shy students
Bring entire class to conversation though physically located in different locales
With IM, prevents hiders and free-loaders
Virtual world facilitated deeper connections, even more than that of real world > greater intimacy, virtual relationships translate to real world relationships
