2. My name: Lim Lay Chuan
3. My role in the SAF: Medical Ops Warrant
4. Why I am taking the Specialist Diploma: My Job involved in training, I would like to know more about Learning science.
5. What I hope to gain from the New Media Pedagogy course: New Media thus affect the new training & learning, hence, would like to gain more from New Media to assist development of the learnet.
6. My notes and questions:
Constructivism:
Inquiry-based learning: developing learning based on questions generated by students, teachers, and learning materials.
The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign has a whole Inquiry Page to explore inquiry-based learning online.
Backwards design: starting a lesson plan with an "essential question" and determining goals, assessment strategies, and class activities from there.
If you're interested in learning more about backwards design, ASCD has assembled a resource list.
Critical thinking: encouraging higher-level thinking, beyond simple recall.
Thoughtful integration of technology: using new tools in ways that enrich the learning experience and connect to students' needs or experiences.
For an example from the library, here is a post from school librarian Buffy Hamilton about her use of LibGuides.
Ongoing assessment: relying on both formal and informal measures of assessment so that students know where they stand and how to focus their work
Evidence-based practice: supporting and improving our teaching using defensible evidence and existing academic work
Initiation: being introduced to the topic and realizing that there is something to learn
Selection: choosing a question around which to base research
Exploration: examining a variety of resources and becoming aware of the vastness (or total lack) of information available
Formulation: developing the research question into a manageable, researchable thesis
Collection: gathering relevant information and creating knowledge
Presentation: synthesizing what has been learned and sharing it with others
Assessment: determining how well the task at hand has been (or is currently being) handled. Assessment should be ongoing throughout the research process.
connectivism
Underlying each theory is a deeper ideology and worldview. Philosophers, psychologists, theorists, and linguists have long debated the nature of learning and knowing. Is learning the process of aligning with objective, external knowledge and truth (objectivism)? Are learning and knowledge an interpretive process (i.e. we learn as we experience, and truth is revealed through our action and cognition) (pragmatism)? Or is learning a process where we create our own truth through our own perspective of the world (interpretivism)?
7. My individual presentation/assignment:
8. My reflection (use comments feature below or embed a blog here) Social learning and new media is a very good course for staff who are sitting on training development post. This is something we have to learn and change our current mindset of the teaching style.
