I am concerned about the overall picture for safe, pleasurable recreational cycling on this continent.

Positive progression will require a change in road user attitudes and behaviour. How can we do this? Either through education or enforcement. 1.2M would go along way to PSAs, Share the Road signage, building video training modules, promoting training courses, paying instructors....

Yes...this is a long difficult process (as we have seen with driving while impaired, and now with cellphone use), so we better start NOW.

Road facilities and segregation most often create a perceived safety for uneducated riders, or a most, a minor, localized safety enhancement.
