Red flashing clip-on button that reads, "Caution Lemony Snicket At Large". Distributed to bookstore customers on Lemony Snicket Day.

9. The Slippery Slope Clue (HarperCollins version)

Customers who mailed off a bookstore receipt indicating that they purchased The Carnivorous Carnival on release day received in reply a one-page letter from HarperCollins. When folded and cut according to the printed instructions, the page formed two paper dolls holding hands and revealed a secret message about The Slippery Slope: "Two Will Disappear And Never Be Seen Again".

Egmont:

1. Misfortune Telling tarot cards (Egmont version)

Twenty-six tarot cards that predict dismal futures. Stored in velvet bag stamped with seal of Lemony Snicket.

2. World Snicket Day

Egmont declared October 28, 2003 (the publication date for their edition of The Carnivorous Carnival and The Bad Beginning Limited Edition) to be World Snicket Day and released a set of promotional items for the occasion. Set contents:

    • Plastic button ("badge"): “Read Something Else”

    • Set of four postcards: Olaf, Violet, Klaus, Sunny, each with “No wizards. No happy endings. Read something else.” on front. Character illustrations are die-cut such that each character pops up when the postcard is folded in half.

    • Set of four bookmarks: Olaf, Violet, Klaus, Sunny, each with “No wizards. No happy endings. Read something else.” on front and character notes on back

    • Strip of four stickers: Olaf, Violet, Klaus, Sunny, each with “A Series of Unfortunate Events Read Something Else”

    • Announcement card for The Carnivorous Carnival and World Snicket Day: "Whatever you do, don't get out of bed on World Snicket Day, the 28th October 2003!"
