Mail Bag ! : Steve
Display & discussed a box of recent ebay/aliexpress electronics purchases.
Most items cost only $1 - $3 each.
Items included :
PCB ruler with SMD package outlines and sample hole sizes.
SMD-through hole DIP converter PCBs
Resistor decade board with jumper selectors. Values range from 1Ohm to 9MOhm.
High power (neodymium) magnets with centre screw mounting hole
5V to 3.3V regulator modules
TTL - RS232 converter module with dupont cables
'Logic analyser' cables (4 x IC test hooks-dupont female)
Relay module operates on 3-5V, including ON LED. Cheaper than buying the parts separately
3 colour, 10 LED bar graph displays
DS18B20 temperature sensor on a module
3.3V-5V bi-directional level shifter module, 8 bits wide
Which processor should I move to ? : Andrew
What is a good processor to use for future projects?
Low power, inexpensive are key requirements.
Some options discussed were :
Atmel
Arduino?
Raspberry Pi - too much power consumption
Cypress PSOC 5LP Kit - includes FPGA & IDE is fully integrated re compiler and FPGA configuration.
Arduino code for 4 digit display (the old Joey board again!) : Alex
I showed a project where I interfaced an ESP32 to the Joey 4-digit LED display using Arduino software.
Had some example applications to exercise the display such as alphanumeric characters, blink/dim,
temperature using DS18B20 sensor and jumper switch reading.

Editor note : if you want a free 4 digit display (joey) to use with your micro,
please send me a email and I'll bring some in to the next meeting.
