FIRST POST-COVID-19 FACE-TO-FACE MEETING AT THE SMSA
Congratulations to the Programming SIG on being the first to hold a post-COVID-19 face-to-face meeting at the SMSA on Tuesday, 11th May 2021.
Those attending in person were: Steve OBrien, SIG Leader and Alex Wong, with five others joining in remotely via Jitsi.
Steve and Alex shared one camera from the brightly-lit Woolley Room showing hi-res images. It's amazing what you can do in a well-lit room.
They demonstrated both Printed Circuit Board designs via screen-sharing as well as camera shots of the actual PCBs.
The meeting went from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm with a 5-minute break for a sip of water etc., at about 7:00 pm.
ALEX's project notes for May:
-Use a bluetooth adapter to send audio from a DFPlayer MP3 module to a wireless speaker. (no link)
-Upgraded a cheap wireless speaker to a 2000mAH Li-ion battery to increase playtime.
Boost bluetooth speaker playtime
Steve showed a Lab Timer board recently designed for UNSW Biomed. While in the Lab, users must wear gloves and cannot use mobile phones to avoid contamination, so they need benchtop timers. These are commercially available but we were also looking for a project to build in our learn to solder training course.
I attempted to run it from a USB power bank, but it kept shutting down. Alex reported that they do that if the connected load is too low. So I'll have to come up with a different battery arrangement.
