Reset button

Reset button

Visible from the outside of the electrical box is a small white button under a clear plastic flexible dome. Known as the Reset button, it is actually just a circuit breaker.

The Reset button (circuit breaker) connects the thin red wire at the start solenoid (which is directly connected with the heavy red battery cable) to the Red/Purple wire connections inside the electrical box. The thin Red wire is direct battery power. The Red/Purple wire is battery power protected by the Reset button.

Under normal PWC operation the Reset button will never trip and the white button will remain depressed. If the white button pops up then the Reset button will disconnect all electrical power. If this happens it means there is a serious electrical fault (overload) somewhere or possibly the Reset button itself has become faulty.

If the Reset button trips while you are on the water, first check under the seat for any signs of electrical trouble. Smoke, melted wires, that sort of thing. If no trouble is found, press the Reset button. It should stay down, and allow you to start and run the engine. Immediately return to shore and investigate more thoroughly why it tripped.

In normal use the Reset button will never trip, ever. If it does, something is wrong.

Tip: Check for cracks in the housing of the Reset button and corrosion damage. Make sure the clear flexible plastic dome cover is in place.
