Electrical Box

Electrical box

All carburetor PWC have a sealed metal box which contains the majority of electrical wire connections. There is a rubber seal between the two halves of the box. It is important that the seal be in good condition, and the perimeter bolts be present to maintain the waterproof seal.

Important safety note: Before opening the electrical box remove the heavy Black cable from the negative post of the battery. This prevents short circuit damage from any accidental contact of the metal electrical box to the battery.

Some watercraft have the electrical box positioned on top of the battery and held down with rubber straps. It is critical that the plastic battery cover be in place. If the metal shell of the electrical box contacts the battery posts the resulting short can melt wires or cause an electrical fire. If your plastic battery cover is missing and your electrical box mounts above the battery you must replace the plastic cover.

Inside the electrical box there is typically (but not in all models) a terminal board with labeled metal terminals. Also present will be the CDI ignition module, the ignition coil pack and the LR voltage regulator module. The heavy red cables connect to the start solenoid (relay).Fuses: If you have a bilge pump there will be a 3 Amp fuse for the bilge pump clipped into the electrical board. The 3 Amp bilge fuse only affects the bilge pump, if it fails it does not affect anything but the bilge pump.If your PWC has an MFD digital display there will be a 1/4 Amp fuse to protect the display electronics. Only replace with another 1/4 Amp fuse, not a higher Amp rated fuse.
