Fuel Sender always shows Low Fuel

For most carburetor models 1995-2004 (except Octane)

MFD always warns Low Fuel and red lamp is flashing = replace fuel float

MFD fuel level indicator is blank with no warning about Low Fuel = repair fuel tank level sender fuse or broken wires to sender

MFD Fuel level reads Low Fuel and red warning lamp is flashing but the fuel tank is full

The original float inside the sender unit can become gas-logged, and no longer floats in the gasoline. Note: It may actually be water in the fuel that the float absorbs. In any case, replacing the float is the fix.Polaris replacement float is part number is 2872860 These used to be available from Watcon, and are currently available from John ZiglerNote: On early senders that use a float arm sometimes the wires break away where they connect inside the tank.Tank is full but MFD shows nothing for fuel level, not even a Low Fuel warningUnplug the fuel sender wires from the fuel tank and measure the ohms. Does it measure open circuit or very high ohms (far grater than 240 ohms)? If yes, fuel sender is open circuit, due to either a blown fuse inside the sender or a broken wire.Check that the Pink and Black wires from the fuel tank to the display are not damaged or disconnected somewhere.A fuel level sender showing incorrect readings due to a sinking fuel float will still measure about 240 ohms or less between the Pink and Black sender wires. That problem is corrected by replacing the internal float with a new float.

If the small fuse inside the sender fails then the ohm measurement will be much higher than 240 ohms, probably reading an open circuit. The MFD display will show nothing for fuel level, and there will not be a warning about Low Fuel. An open circuit condition requires the original small 1/8 Amp fuse to be replaced (soldered onto the sender circuit board, which is the recommended method) or the original fuse can be bypassed with a short copper wire jumper and an external fuse provided inline with the Pink wire.Repairing the small fuse inside the magnetic float type fuel senders, carb models 1995-2004
