2009

The 2009 AMC

The 2009 AMC, the 32nd AMC, was held on Thursday 06 August. A record number of students have met the demanding standards required to win a medal. For the first time medals have been won in Iran, South Korea and Trinidad and Tobago. We thank schools from around Australia and countries in the Asia Pacific region for their continued support of this event which dates back to 1978 and continues to be the major mathematics school enrichment event in the region. It is also the first part of a further enrichment and problem solving program. In Australia it is also the basis of the program for training for the International Mathematical Olympiad.

This competition tests everything through from basic numeracy skills through to advanced problem solving, and this is the second year we have awarded a Proficiency Certificate for students reaching a pre-set standard in both skills and problem solving, using their skills in the world around them.

In 2008 the AMC yielded seven perfect scores. This year there are over 20, but none in the Senior Division and just two, both from Singapore, in the Intermediate Division.

Since 2004 the event has also been held for students in primary schools. Medals are not issued for primary students but perfect scores (Peter O'Halloran Certificates) are acknowledged and are listed below.

The list of medallists is given below.
