Medals were presented at a function held at Bonython Hall, University of Adelaide, on Fiday 31 October, by the Governor of South Australia, Dame Roma Mitchell.

This is the first of two years in which prodigy Terry Tao won a medal. Here he competed as a 10 year old in the Senior Division. He was later to win a Fields Medal, considered equivalent in mathematics to the Nobel Prize.
