The 2007 AMC

The 2007 AMC, the 30th AMC, was held on Wednesday 25 July. A record number of schools participated. We thank schools from around Australia and countries in the Asia Pacific region for their continued support of this event which dates back to 1978 and continues to be the major mathematics school enrichment event in the region.

Since 2004 the event has also been held for students in primary schools. Medals are not issued for primary students but perfect scores (BH Neumann Certificates) are acknowledged and a number of these were achieved and are shown below.

Those from Australia were presented at Government House, Brisbane, on Monday 12 November, by the Governor of Queensland, Ms Quentin Bryce AC. Below Cathryn McDonald, an Intermediate Medallist from Adelaide, is shown receiving her medal from the Governor.

New Zealand

New Zealand Medals were presented in Auckland on 27 September at the New Zealand Association of Mathematics Teachers biennial conference by Professor Peter Taylor. The medallists are shown below after their presentations, from left Joe Lu, Robert Zhangh, Park So-Young and Li Heyang.

Philippines

Philippine medals were presented in Manila at a special function at the University on Thursday 18 October by Philippines Secretary of Science and Technology Dr Estrella Alabastro and Australian Ambassador HE Mr Tony Hely. Shown below are from left, Ambassador Hely, Professor Peter Taylor, the three medallists from left Diogo Moitinho de Almeida, Amiel Sy and Aldric Cristoval Reyes, Secretary Alabastro, Undersecretary Professor Fortunato T de la Peña, Director of DOST's Science Education Institute Dr Ester Ogena and Philippines National Director of AMC Dr Simon Chua.

Brunei Darussalam

The Brunei medal was presented at a function at the University of Brunei Darussalam on Saturday 20 October by Director of Schools Hajah Aisyah binti Haji Hussain. Oh Jon Keat's teacher Michelle Chin Wei Tyng is shown below receiving the medal on his behalf with Brunei Darussalam National AMC Director Dr Saiful Azmi Hj Awg Husain (centre).

Singapore

Singapore Medals were presented at a function at the Mandarin Hotel, Singapore, on Wednesday 24 October by Ms Kirsty Dodsworth, representing Australia's High Commissioner to Singapore, HE Mr Miles Kupa. Six of the seven medallists (from left Tan Wei Cher, Lim Zongsheng Samuel, Liu Shijie, Quan Chengzhang, Lim Wei Quan and Wu Biao) are shown below after the presentation flanked by Mr Greg Taylor (left), Chairman of the Australian Mathematics Trust Board and on the right by Ms Kirsty Dodsworth.

Malaysia

Malaysian medals were presented at a national function in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday 28 October by the Australian High Commissioner to Malaysia, Ms Penny Williams. Taiwan

Medals for students from Taiwan were presented by Professor Taylor at various schools in April 2008.

Hong Kong medals were presented by Professor Taylor at a national ceremony in the Novotel New Century Hotel, Hong Kong Island, on Tuesday 08 April.

Mauritius

There was a presentation of prizes hosted by Australian High Commissioner in Mauritius HE Ms Catherine Johnstone, attended by Mauritius Minister for Education and Human Resources Mr Dharambeer Gokhool, on Monday 29 October.
