System 12

Compounded material transfer system

The following photos show the mimic diagram (left) and the replacement hmi (right)

This is a system that PJC Systems originally installed in 1996 to blow material from a compounding machine to a number of bins and silos. The system incorporated a Mitsubishi AnS series plc, and a rear processed perspex mimic. A couple of years after the original installation, a second compounder was added, necessitating fairly substantial modifications to the panel, including the replacement of the mimic diagram. PJC Systems carried out these modifications on site, within the agreed shutdown period.

The above photos show the interior of the panel with the mimic diagram fitted, the exterior of the panel after the hmi was fitted, and the interior of the panel with the replacement hmi

Recently, several more bins were added to the system. The number of spare i/o was not sufficient, and there were no spare slots on the plc rack to accomodate any more modules. The practicalities of replacing the mimic diagram to one of the same size, but incorporating additional bins was also considered impractical

PJC Systems replaced the mimic diagram with an hmi, which easilly fitted within the existing panel. By removing some of the plc driven lamps, PJC Systems managed to free-up sufficient plc outputs, and by taking the operator controls off the front of the panel, and incorporating them on the hmi, PJC Systems managed to free-up sufficient inputs.

PJC Systems re-engineered the system, modified the system on site, and re-commissioned the system during an agreed shutdown period.
