A number of years ago PJC Systems put a system in for this customer to feed PVC Resin from two silos to a single mixer. The system involved an operator panel with a Mitsubishi Q series processor and an Beijers E1101 colour touch screen operator interface. There was a separate silo panel some distance away which communicated with the mixer panel via CC-Link.

Some years on, the customer wanted to add a third Resin Silo, and to feed all three silos to the existing mixer, and two others. There was the potential to need to isolate one (or more) of the mixers for maintenance, but keep the others running. For this reason PJC Systems had to completely re-configure the system so that the Silo Panel became the master of a networked system.
The system was changed to the scheme shown above, where all panels now communicate on MelsecNet/H.
The existing system had to be totally reconfigured without affecting production, then each of the other two mixers brought on line, again, whilst the plant was running live.
The Silo Panel Master PLC was too large to be mounted next to the silos so was sited inside the factory. The Silo Panel shown is a slave monitoring station directly wired to the Silo PLC Panel.
*Because the E1000 terminals are no longer available, the second and third mixing plants were fitted with a GOT2000 graphics screen.
