· Since Unit Tests cannot be retaken, they must be approached with care.
· “Studying” for a test can be a very abstract (and often overwhelming) concept for a 6th grader. However, many students have found the following steps useful in preparing for a unit test:
o For a COL (unit test), look over your Target Practices. If you are studying for a Target Practice, go to the next step.
§ Do I have a minimum score of a 3 on every Target Practice for the Unit (as reported in Skyward)?
· If not, STOP. Go back and relearn the target.
o Did you review the learning targets (found infront of your Math Manifest)?
o What feedback did I receive from the teacher through Desmos Cool Down? Do I understand it?
o Look over the practice on Desmos. Is is all correct? What questions do you still have?
§ This is often the focus for what should be reviewed.
o Review your Notes (in the back of the Math Manifest).
§ This should have a basic outline of the skills needed for success on the unit test
o Have a conversation with your student about the math they have learned using the Desmos Practice as a guide
· If your student struggles with any of the above tips, please send them to us with a list of specific questions that they need clarification on.
