The most common question we get… ‘is there homework?’
Kind of.
· We strongly recommend students to be spending 20 concentrated minutes at home working on math, Monday through Thursday.
· Homework is listed as "Practice" in Desmos, and will be referred to as homework for our purposes here.
· Homework is not a requirement, but it is a daily option. However, we recognize that some families may want the extra practice, or additional challenge in order to better prepare for later grades. Homework should self-correct their answers using the last 'feedback slide' in Desmos.
· We require students to complete lessons in class. If your student doesn’t finish in class, they are expected to finish the classwork at home. Their lessons can be tracked in the Success Attributes section found in Skyward.
· Provided that students are not behind, we never expect students to work on school work during holidays or weekends. We strongly believe this time should be for family and friends.
· Homework is to be completed on the Desmos online platform.
· Homework Tip: If your student ever becomes stuck (and frustrated) with a problem, have them write a specific question. Skip that question, and have your student bring it to us first thing in the morning, or during class time for clarity. As teachers, we have the advantage of understanding the direction of the problem, and can often straighten out a question in a few minutes, preventing tears of frustration.
o If frustration or tears happens on a regular basis at home please contact us. We can often give you other strategies to help with the math blues at home.
