In Present sentences, you use: There is a/an -------(Hay 1..) or There are ------(Hay dos, tres, muchos, algunos, etc):
Describing a place:
Note: Use "A"= si la palabra que sigue comienza con consonante:There is a television
Use "An"= si la palabra que sigue comienza con vocal: There is an English book
Use "there is en singular= There is a picture
Use "there are" en plural= There are two green couches
Now you practice:
So if I have to describe this living-room I would say:
1-There is a green coach in front of the TV
2-There is another green sofa next to the TV
3-There is a TV between a small table with a lamp and a green coach
4-There is a picture on the red wall
5-There are two books over the TV
6-There is a green carpet on the floor
In the Past: we use There was/there were
