Updating Firmware

There are two ways to update the firmware on Olympus PEN and OM-D cameras.

  • The official Olympus way is to connect the camera to your computer using the supplied USB - D socket cable, then using the Olympus Updater software to reach the Olympus website. You don't have to know how to place a file somewhere, the whole process is menu driven.

or

  • the method similar to the Panasonic way. Using a third party website, download the correct file to your computer, place it on your SD card (hopefully your computer has an SD card reader/writer), in a folder. The name of the folder and the final name of the file are in instructions on that website. Then switch off the camera, insert the SD card in the camera and (take a deep breath), hold down the Ok button while switching on the camera to start the update process. This method will flush all user settings on the camera.

You can read about the features provided by newer versions of the firmware on the Olympus firmware announcements page.
