Durham City Philatelic Society

About the Society

About the Society

The Society held its first exploratory meeting in December 1964 at which members of NEPA outlined the process of forming a society in association with NEPA. The first meeting took place in January 1965 at Alington House. By 1970, membership had reached 40, necessitating a move to Framwellgate Moor Community Centre. The Society hosted its first NEPA convention in 1970 at Bede College with the second being held ten years later at Dunelm House. Perhaps surprisingly, the society has only had four secretaries in its whole existence, with David Williams holding office from 1969 to 1990 and Cliff Garside from 1990 to 2014. The current secretary is Dr Bob Williams.
