OC1 CHALLENGE LADDER
WHAT IS THIS? - Gleaned from the Tennis Challenge Ladder as a means for members to race fellow members when convenient, offering plenty of racing opportunities.
RANKINGS
Initial rankings will be in order of membership, with the newest at the bottom.
Guys and Gals will be mixed into a single ladder.
At the end of the season, the guy and the gal with the highest ranking will win a prize.
CHALLENGES – Anyone may challenge a paddler ranked one or two spots above or below.
If you win against a lower ranked paddler, then you both hold onto your current rankings.
If you win against a higher ranked paddler you take their higher ranked spot, and the loser (as well as everyone between the challenger and the challenged...will drop one spot on the ranking ladder.
CHALLENGE RULES
Challenges should be made by email or phone or BLOGGED
Challenger is responsible for reserving the two outriggers for the agreed day/time
If you are challenged, you have one week to agree to a day/time to race the challenger.
If the challenger and challenged can not agree to a day/time within two weeks of the initial challenge, then the higher ranked paddler is considered defaulted and the two paddlers will switch places in their rankings.
Challenger is responsible for reporting the race results to the challenge administrator
THE RACE
Best 2 of 3 race-offs with no more than 10 break between each.
First two will be the short course (one in each direction).
If a 3rd race-off is needed, it will be the long course. Direction decided by the winner of (rock/paper/scissors).
Challenger should try to get a judge to help with the finish line (honor starts). The judge will be the ultimate decider on winner/loser. BUT if no judge can be secured, then the results will have to be mutually agreed. If no judge is present and neither party can agree to a winner - then report the challenge as a "disputed race" and another race-off will need to be scheduled with a judge present.
THE RACE COURSE
I will place three orange buoys alongside the sailing club's white barrels shortly. These will represent the start and finish lines which the racers will need to finish between.
