Layer 2 - Data Link

The data link layer prepares logical data streams for modulation onto a physical carrier. Some data link protocols are tightly integrated with physical layer standards. Others incorporate network layer features. Data link protocols are either point-to-point (with no addressing) or multiaccess (with addressing significant only to the local network segment). Global addressing systems are reserved for the network layer.
